Experimentation

Before I began photography, I used traditional art media. I took an art class to fulfill the fine arts requirement for high school in my freshman year. I developed an interest for art, and continued taking art classes for every year since. Through experimentation and practice, I gained some skill with every available medium.

In the summer of 2002, my family took a road trip from our home in Sugar Land, Texas to New York. For this trip, my parents bought a simple point-and-shoot digital camera, a Sony Cybershot DSC-P7. I soon claimed exclusive use of the camera for the duration of the trip. After returning home, the camera experienced a long period of inactivity. In the middle of the fall semester, I started to bring the camera with me to school, and anywhere else I happened to go. I took pictures of everything that I found to be interesting, or that I thought somebody else would like to see. My skills and passion for photography soon surpassed that of my traditional art. Sadly, my knowledge of image sizes and image storing was also learnt along the way, so some pictures are not what they could have been.

As my first camera lost all ability to function, it was replaced with the Sony Cybershot DSC-F828 in the summer of 2004. This allowed for more flexibility; I tinkered with shutter speeds and began to use only manual focus.

I took my first photography class in the spring semester of 2006. This class required that I take pictures using black and white film. So I purchased the Canon EOS Rebel T2. With this I started to attempt photography with people as models.
